Yesterday I put myself on a list for people offering a room for Ukrainian refugees. Today the urban administration sent me a young man from a city in northern Ukraine. Before he came ’refugee’ was a technical term for me, I technically understood. Now, as he is here, ’refugee’ is not an abstract term anymore, but has a human face. And I start thinking: how would it feel, if I myself would be forced to cram my life in a plastic bag and leave my home, my people? If you go to the supermarket later to buy stuff for dinner and carry a bag or two home, imagine that would be all you own.
